Chapter 1 - Accounts
All server accounts are managed in the account form shown below. You can bring up this form by hitting F2, however, you won't be allowed to connect until you have first selected a terminal window without an active connection.
Here are some explanations for each control on the form: The Account ListboxAll accounts you create in Genius are listed in this box. You can select an entry by clicking it, or, if the listbox has the keyboard focus, you can simply walk through all entries with the arrow up/down keys. This control has keyboard focus whenever you open the dialog. If you want to add or delete an account from the list, select it and click one of the buttons below the list. Whenever you select an account, it's setup is copied to the edit fields on the right hand side of the dialog. Any changes you make there will automatically be applied to the account, so it's very easy to change account settings. The Account Add and Delete ButtonsIf you click the Add button, a small window will pop up asking you for the name of the account. Just type anything there to start with, you can change it any time later. The Account Name Edit FieldThis is the name for the account, as shown in the account list box. Feel free to rename accounts whenever you like. They will be sorted alphabetically next time you open the account dialog. The Server Name Edit FieldThe server name has to contain the domain name or IP of the server you wish to connect to. Examples are: www.villagegreen.ch Make sure to get this field right, otherwise you won't be able to connect. The Server Port Edit FieldEach server runs different services on many different ports. Those ports are simply numbers, like those of buildings along the same street. Saying "Sunshine Boulevard" doesn't help much in finding the flat, right? That's why there's need for the port. Standard telnet port is 23, but most MUDs run on different ports, so you need to find out on which server port the service runs you want to connect to. If the port is not mentioned on the related web site (which is very, very unlikely), the administrators will certainly know. Make sure to get this field right, otherwise you won't be able to connect. The Option Set Droplist-ComboxAs you will see in the Option Set Chapter, Genius assigns option sets to accounts, to control their visual attributes and many other settings. This is pretty smart, because you can use the same layout for many servers, or for each account a different one, if you take the time to create that many option sets. You always need to create the option set first, before assigning it to an account. If the option set you'd like to use doesn't exist yet, don't worry. Just choose a standard set and connect. Then, hit F3 to get the Option Set Dialog, make the new option set and apply. Next time you connect to the same server, don't forget to assign the new option set permanently to the account by choosing the new option set from the droplist combo. The Auto Send MemoEverything you type here will be sent to the server as soon as the connection has been established. You could enter your login information here (although I'd not recomment to, especially if other people have access to the same PC), or you can execute certain commands right on login (for example, WHO, to see who's currently online). Please note that each command must be on it's own line, so use Return to break lines. The Comments MemoThis memo is for your personal use, so you can put anything into it you like, for example, tasks you need to do, or things to remember next time you log in. The content of this memo is stored together with the rest of the account information. The Close and Connect ButtonsThe Close buttons will simply save your settings and close the dialog, whereas Connect will do the same plus trying to connect you to the server currently selected in the account list box. See what happens in the terminal after the dialog has closed.
